Living inside your comfort zone is easy. It's like going to the restaurant that is life and ordering the same thing off the menu of life every time.
Ordering the same thing on the menu every time ensures that you will be as satisfied as you were the last time... but you don't grow. You haven't learned anything new. Your life isn't any richer, though you may gain some weight lol
You're not at this restaurant for a satisfactory meal. You don't want to settle the bill after having just wet your palette!
On the menu of life, each item comes with different tastes and experiences. You may like some better than others, but you will never know if you keep ordering the same number 58!
There's something about getting out of your comfort zone that makes you grow as a person. The new situation stimulates the brain in ways that it has never been stimulated before, causing new synaptic connections to be made.
Last week I stepped outside my comfort zone by busking on the streets of Toronto for the first time! It was nerve racking at first. Even the act of finding a spot and putting our guitars down felt laden with anxious anticipation. We didn't get a single nickel in the first 30 minutes of playing! Then finally, as we reached the chorus of Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden, an old man who could barely walk on his own, pulled a $5 bill from his pocket and rescued us from the shadows of self doubt that was starting to creep in. I learned many things that day - not the least of which was that old people were the most generous, and that Twist and Shout caused them to reach into their pockets the most.
So be adventurous! Take chances! Take a leap! Order something different! Who knows? You might like it or at least learn something about yourself or the world around you :)
