The secret of forever

Will come at the end of the post. For now, let's talk about mindfulness :)

Mindfulness is very simply being present in the here and now. It sounds so simple, but living mindfully is a constant struggle as our thoughts and surroundings pull our attention in every direction.

How often do we get so caught up in thinking about the past or worrying/planning for the future, that the present moment passes us by without notice. A great well of happiness is found in being able to appreciate and have gratitude for the present moment - whether 'good' or 'bad'.

It is hard to live mindfully all of the time, but it gets easier when you break life into segments of mindfulness. Here are some activities where I like to practice mindfulness:

  • Eating - I used to multi-task while I ate. Eating became a mechanical and detached experience, where I hardly even tasted the food. To be present while you eat is to put all you senses to task. Eating then becomes symphony of the senses - a festival of tastes, smells, and textures.
  • Listening - Not to be confused with hearing. Hearing can happen without being present, but to be mindful of what you are hearing is to listen.
    • To Music
    • To people - to understand is to listen without judgement
    • To nature - dido
  • Ecstatic Dancing - Being one with the music and letting it move you however it will, no matter how silly it makes you look. Another spiritual experience!
Recognize opportunities in your life to stop and smell the roses. Appreciate the moment just because you can and be thankful for it. Guaranteed +2 wellness points :)

Psssst... *whispers*
Attend to the moment with your entire being, and there you will find eternity.
